Using OneNote native elements to create Mind Map

Does OneNote can show the section in navigation pane where the page after searching and clicking?

2026-08-23 16:48

Question:

By default, Windows' File Explorer navigation pane is the same as OneNote's navigation pane.

When you search for a file in Windows File Explorer and click on a file, the navigation pane doesn't always show the folder that the file is in.

But in its 'Folder Options' window, there's an option: View -> Advanced settings -> Navigation pane -> Expand to open folder. If you check it, the File Explorer navigation pane will automatically expand to the folder where the file is located.

Now in OneNote, when you search for a page and click on the search result to open it, OneNote does jump to that page, but the notebook and section where the page is located don’t get highlighted and display in the navigation pane.

For example, if the page is:

Notebook “Alpha” → Section “Art History Topics” → Page “Caravaggio”

I want that when OneNote opens the Caravaggio page, the navigation pane also shows the selected “Alpha” notebook and “Art History Topics” section, so I can immediately see where the page is.

Is there a setting or a way to fix this?
